Wrong.
It was written to ensure checks and balances in the federal government. |

| Are we reading the same Constitution? I could have sworn there were also things like guarantees of rights in there or something. Minor details though, I guess. |

I agree.
Thomas Jefferson wrote:
"Still one thing more, fellow citizens — a wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government, and this is necessary to close the circle of our felicities."
Notice he says nothing about govt charity.
The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.
and he believed that liberty is a gift from God:
The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time.
I consider the foundation of the Constitution as laid on this ground: That "all powers not delegated to the United States, by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States or to the people." To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition.
and Thomas Paine sums it all up with this;
That government is best which governs least.
Libs have NO sympathy ZERO respect for the principles on which this nation was founded. |

| I have plenty of respect for it. I just don't think it needs to be followed dot-on-the-i, cross-on-the-t strictly. And you're both wrong. Go read the Constitution. It's not simply to restrain the government. |
