I got a huge kick out of this.
The NYTimes public editor says that he was just too squeamish to cover the John Edwards "love child" story
Hoyt gave this explanation:
I do not think liberal bias had anything to do with it. But I think The Times — like The Washington Post, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, major networks and wire services — was far too squeamish about tackling the story. ...
Edwards-Hunter was “classically not a Times-like story,” said Craig Whitney, the standards editor.
Then the Times went and ran three front-page stories about Bristol Palin on the same day.

I guess Bristol must be a major player in this campaign. haha!!

Considering that John Edwards has been out of the presidential race for months while Sarah Palin has just entered it, it makes a little bit of sense to me. I don't really see what there is to cover about either stories though. He had an affair. Great. Better post the same details every day for three weeks, just to make sure everyone got them all. It's rumored on the Internet that Trig is Bristol Palin's baby. Great. Better post the same details every day for three weeks, just to make sure everyone got them all. Thanks, media, for not covering anything relevant.
Does anyone else feel depressed right now about how absolutely uninformative the media is for elections? Here is a time where millions of people actually pay attention to what's going on in our country for a short while, and the media spends their time making big deals out of shit like birthday presents to daughters, snowmobiles, unrelated affairs, unsubstantiated pregnancy RUMORS, money, etc. etc.. What a disservice they do to our democracy. |

agreed.
why doesn't the NYTimes just admit they are a liberal paper? I have no problem with liberal papers. I have a problem with a paper that claims to be unbiased and yet is so clearly biased. |

| I don't think that they are explicitly liberal. They have specific authors that cater to different crowds. We are talking about a paper that has Thomas L. Friedman, Paul Krugman, and Bill Kristol writing under the same roof. |
