1. It has never been truly tried.
2. People can make something of themselves, they can be a famous person, or a respected scientist, what they can't be is someone who eats caviar while others live in squalor, if thats what we should make ourselves into, then count me out.
3. See 1, and as an additional note, how many times did capitalism fail before it worked? Or monarchies? Or democracies? I don't see the harm in giving it a chance.
