| Hello all, I'm 24 and will be graduating from college in May. I grew up in a strong Christian home in Northern Michigan, the oldest of five children. My faith and background do have a significant impact on my political views, however I'm not a "card carrying republican". I leave that to my lobbyist sister. I am very conservative on moral-based issues, but I'm not totally traditional. On a great deal of public and economic issues, I tend to align with a more libertarian viewpoint. One of my favorite books is "Ten Things You Can't Say in America" by Larry Elder. I will say that although I don't firmly identify as a republican, I do identify as anti-democrat so my voting tends toward republican candidates - I see it as the best choice in an effectively two-party system. Howard asked me to join this site after noticing my posts in the military forums on myspace. Interestingly I historically have tended to avoid political discussion, likely because my friends have very logical, well thought-out reasons for their beliefs that they are ardent in and I respect that. No sense in arguing for the sake of arguing. Outside of that small circle, well in my experience, the general population is the opposite - uninformed, emotional and without conviction. I've never been able to handle unintelligent conversation. It's only recently that I have begun to get involved with some online forums and so far have enjoyed it. My avoidance of discussion has never been due to lack of opinion, so being able to choose who to engage with has been fun. I look forward to seeing what this ste has to offer and possible sharpening my discussion skills and knowledge of current events. After so long in college, I need to get back into what's going on in the world outside of academia. |

hey guys, i'm suz. i've been a member of this forum for a while, but haven't been on in a LONG time! I am a registered democrat, but i would consider myself a liberal independent. there are aspects of both parties that I agree and disagree with. I am working as an english editor at the moment in Egypt, for an online publication that translates arabic news into english. I read quite a lot of interesting things about middle eastern politics and religion that is not covered in the general western media outlets. other than that, i'm 23, and love to talk politics, I hope to be in here more often! |

| Hello to all you political junkies. My name is Al and I'm a retired magazine editor. My politics are somewhat right of center but consider myself an independent. I have never voted a straight ticket in a national election. In addition to being a political junkie, I am an avid hunter (deer, turkey, bear and elk). I also enjoy a variety of other outdoor activities. Additionally, I enjoy woodworking, carpentry, reading, cooking & baking, and do some fishing. |
