We need to set some rules about immigrants.
First, we want to get the best people over here, not the worst ones as we do now. No one with a criminal record in their home country should be admitted. No one who is sick or disabled. No one who is uneducated. No one who has few or no job skills. No one who doesn't speak English. All should be on probation for 5 years. No anchor babies at all. No bringing old relatives over here, or any relatives over here. They must enter on their own right. No free passes for sick and aged relatives. Entrance is strictly competitive like the rest of life. You must have a sponsor that will guarantee with a bond that you will never become a public charge of any kind. If you ever do, this person must pay.
With these and a few hundred more restrictions we could have legal immigrants.
Preference would always be given to those who speak English as a native tongue and to those who speak, read and write English fluently. |

We dont need new rules against immigration.
We need our derelict government to enforce the ones that already exist.
Oh yes maybe some new rules, like END BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP.
Make it so that they cannot collect welfare here, make it so that they cannot legally worke here.
They will go home by themselves. |

You fellas are conservatives, right? The illegal immigration issue is simple if you look at it in terms of basic economics: stop the demand, and you'll stop the supply. Go after those who employ illegals, and the illegals will have no reason to come here. Very basic. Our current President had no intention of doing this because illegals are so incredibly profitable for businesses...and quite frankly, for many people in the middle/upper class (think house painting, lawn maintenance, pool cleaning, child watching, etc.)
As for changing the legal immigration laws...absolutely. They need to reflect the realities of the 21st century economy. We don't need millions of illiterat, unskilled workers; there just isn't any place for them. We do need knowledge workers, engineers, scientists, etc. |

Except it isn't that simple. The demand is so strong that mere legislation and law enforcement may be completely ineffective, and may only exacerbate the problem.
An example of this is illegal drugs.

Did you know that we actually have a fairly low cap on the number of those folks that we allow to come here? And that, because of "security" concerns, it's such a pain in the ass that would-be immigrants are often disinclined to bother?
I do think we should change those things. There shouldn't be a cap on the number of highly educated and skilled immigrants. And we shouldn't treat them like criminals when they want to come here. |
