"It’s interesting that the Canadians, who are often derided by U.S. medical “experts” for their single-payer system, which “makes people wait” for certain procedures, can expect to live nearly three years longer than we U.S. citizens. And notice that the others who outlive us — the Brits, the Germans, the Swedes and the Swiss — make sure that everyone receives medical coverage." |

It's just the market readjusting. You'll see; the invisible hand will fix everything.

Cracks me up...
every civilized country in the free world has inexpensive
universal healthcare for their population
and to hear Americans talk they think people are dying in the streets
begging their Doctors to see them with boils and sores exuding from every portion of their body
except the truth is we have the most inefficient healthcare IN THE WORLD
millions can't afford it and go without
small companies can't afford it and are afraid to expand
the elderly are forced to take bustrips into Canada to get the drugs they need at an affordable price
People are now taking surgery vacations into India and South America to do elective procedures because they're too expensive here
But You listen to the republicans and they talk like there's nuthin wrong
Hey Chicken little...the sky is falling |

Given the only context I have is your statement, I can't say too much. However, I believe there are some correct elements of that statement IFF one includes the complete context. If polluters had to pay for all of the downlevel effects of their pollution, then they would be looking at ways to reduce pollution.
Pumping toxins into the air is free, unless you have to pay for all the cancer and asthma bills of those you are harming. If one has to do the latter, they are less likely to pollute, and the market would correct itself, at least theoretically. Ironically, to get to this 'free market', regulation is needed.
There is also the argument that oil and coal are subsidized, and if we removed those subsidies, alternative energies would proliferate. While there is some truth to that, oil & coal are only one aspect of pollution. Furthermore, while this is an option now due to technology, there weren't really the options in the past.
I find this situation/discussion somewhat orthogonal to the discussion of healthcare. Very different markets with very different needs. Thoughts? |
