I say it's because .... republicans on the whole see the individual - or people as an afterthought...
ie: save the fetus but defund all the post partum agencies for mothers and families
support the troops but leave VA hospitals like Walter Reed to founder
lie to the the American people that they are saving Social Security for the future...while robbing the coffers for their tax cuts
on and on and on.... |

No...but they have enough money to give back to people like Dick Cheney and Donald Trump in the form of millions in tax cuts...I'd gladdly give up my measly one thousand dollar give back if I knew it would give wounded vets better care
Ya think Dick would say the same? |

100% tax is what I say, although it wouldn't be spent on military, in this day and age we shouldn't even *need* a military, which of course was one of the reasons they had to go to war, to prevent people thinking that the military-industrial complex was useless.. |

That's madness.

Even without the military industrial complex, the necessity for a military doesn't go away. It'll have to be phased out over decades, or even centuries. During that time, it won't disappear, but, rather, will change in form. |

Ka-Raaaayyyzzzzyyy. Why not?
Ok I guess can see why we would always need some form of military, but I would prefer if it was just intelligence, we don't need tanks, think that would be a plausible change in form? |

While the laffer curve is, by and large, useless and full of crap, it's quite true to say that people won't be very motivated to work if the government literally takes all their money.

By "change in form", i mean, no longer fighting wars.
It'll go away, but we'll never SAY that it's going away. People don't like these sorts of changes, and so they must be subtle. |

| Thats just the thing, it would be taking away all their money, because they would never get their money, it would just be providing everything they needed. |

People are not motivated by need. They're motivated by desire. |

| They'd get some of that too. Also I'd argue that our needs are a large part of our desires. |

Some of...their desires?
As determined by who?
And on what basis? In relation to the amount that they work, or just doled out as the government sees fit?

I suppose so, in that, if you lack what you need, you desire it.
But desire doesn't stop when need is fulfilled. It doesn't even reduce. It just continues. |

By themselves?? There would be basic fare that everyone would get, and then on top of that, there would be an allowance of a sort, which could be used either with the basic fare to upgrade it, or to buy useless but desireable objects.
Why do we desire a porsche? Because one of our needs is the satisfaction of our ego, and to feel 'cool' or 'wanted' satisfies that need. |
