| By this I mean many Liberals have a mindset that all you have to do is pursuade citizens of how right you are. Author Michael Kazin in particular felt that this is not enough, you have to understand the psychology of what people need and how you can meet those needs. |

So we should lie to them and tell them what they hear? I might be irrational in this, but I have absolutely no desire to tell my politicians to lie to me or anyone else. |

| It's not that liberals should lie. Their fault is that they believe that enough talk and fair reasoning can fix anything. It would be great, but one must overcome neuroses, irrational fear and hatred, cultural differences, misinformation, delusions, demand. It takes finesse, sympathy, and social sleight of hand to penetrate the human condition and finally give truth and logic. You don't have to lie, but you do have to appeal to a lot of people from diverse and often uneducated backgrounds. Sometimes the people just hate your smug elitist voice, and no one will give you the chance to explain. |
